What leaves the phone.
Updated 17 October 2026. GreenSago is an app for Android and iPhone that estimates calories from a photo of a meal. This page covers that photo, the log on the phone, the subscription, and this website.
Camera
The app asks for the camera so you can photograph a meal. It uses the back camera. It does not take a photo until you press the shutter.
The photo
When you take a photo, the app sends that picture to GreenSago’s scan service. The service sends it on to Anthropic, which reads the photo and returns a calorie estimate, or a signal that the picture is not a meal. The request asks for a number only, not a name for the food. Anthropic’s commercial terms say Anthropic does not train its models on pictures sent this way.
GreenSago does not save the picture. The scan service uses it to get the estimate, then drops it. Today does not keep the picture either. If the picture is not recognized as a meal, the app says “No meal” and does not add it to Today.
Today, on the phone
A recognized meal is stored on the device as the time it was logged and the calorie number. The log drops entries older than 90 days and keeps at most 400 meals. That log stays on the phone. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Subscription
The monthly plan is a Google Play subscription on Android and an App Store subscription on iPhone. The store handles the price, the charge, cancellation, and restore. GreenSago reads the purchase state from the store on the device.
The scan request also includes the store’s ID for your purchase, the Google Play purchase token on Android or the App Store transaction ID on iPhone, so the service can ask Google or Apple whether the plan is active. GreenSago does not store that ID itself. To enforce the scan limits, the service stores a one-way hash of it, a fingerprint that cannot be turned back into the ID, with a count of photos read: a running total during a free trial, and today’s count on a paid plan. That record holds no photo, no calorie numbers, and nothing that names you.
No account
GreenSago does not ask you to create an account, and it does not ask for your name, email, or age. It does not show ads, and it does not sell the photo or the meal log.
This website
greensago.com is a static site. These pages do not set their own tracking cookies. The typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so a visit sends that request to Google. The site and the scan service run on Cloudflare, which may keep ordinary request logs, such as the time of a request and whether it succeeded. Those logs do not contain the meal photo.
Children
GreenSago is not directed at children.
